Description

The shipment of solid bulk cargoes presents a number of hazards to a vessel. These include structural damage due to improper cargo distribution, loss or reduction of stability during a voyage and chemical reactions of cargoes. It is therefore essential that crewmembers follow the practices and procedures set out in the IMSBC Code to ensure the safe stowage and shipment of solid bulk cargoes.

This course has been developed using the IMO Model Course 1.45 Safe Handling and Transport of Solid Bulk Cargoes to provide a comprehensive training program on the international regulations and the hazards associated with solid bulk cargoes, improving your operational efficiency and contributing to enhanced maritime safety standards.

On successful completion of this eLearning module the trainee will have the knowledge for:

  • Identification of risks associated with the carriage of solid bulk cargoes by sea;
  • Assessment of the acceptability of consignments for safe shipment, especially Group A solid bulk cargoes;
  • Observation of safe working practices during the loading and carriage of solid bulk cargoes;
  • Observation of ship and port security regulations related to the loading, carriage, and unloading of solid bulk cargoes; and
  • Supervision of the operational processes of certain cargoes in accordance with the regulations of the IMSBC Code

On completion of this course you will receive a Certificate of Completion from Ocean Technologies Group powered by Marlins, Seagull and Videotel.

Please note:  The assessment part of this course may be completed onboard ship or onshore in the offices of a registered shipping company or maritime institution. The Master/senior officer onboard or a senior official onshore must sign and stamp your application form to verify they have directly supervised your eLearning assessment(s).
