Description
This course is intended to provide the knowledge required by Senior Cargo Officers serving on LNG tankers in accordance with the standards suggested by The Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO). Its aims to ensure these officers can achieve the competence required in a range of tasks on board, according to their rank. The course is designed for individual self-study and is recommended to be completed at sea, where access to resources and personnel is readily available, although it may be completed onshore.
The SIGTTO LNG Cargo Equipment Management standards contain 8 performance outcomes comprising:
- defined levels of competence (what you should be able to do) - achieved through experiential learning onboard;
- underpinning knowledge (what you should know) - acquired through eLearning.
This course addresses the Underpinning Knowledge required at Cargo Equipment Management level, over seven learning modules. The modules are subdivided into sections and units and may be completed in any order, but we recommend that each module, section and unit is completed in the sequence presented. The 'levels of competence' required at Cargo Equipment Management level are achieved over a 30 day (minimum) training period onboard a LNG carrying vessel, overseen by the Master or Chief Officer. These competencies may be downloaded from the 'Supporting Materials' panel on this page and may guide the training period onboard.
On completion of this course, you will receive a Certificate of Completion from Ocean Technologies Group, powered by Marlins, Seagull and Videotel.
Please note: The Master or Chief Officer must verify that they have overseen your training onboard a LNG vessel for a minimum of 30 days. The Master or Shipping Company must then deem you to be practically competent in all performance outcomes and confirm in writing your suitability for certification according to the SIGTTO LNG Shipping Suggested Competency Standards. A letter template is provided for this purpose in the 'Supporting Material' panel on this page.
