The International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments, 2004 (BWM Convention), entered into force globally on 8th September 2017.  The convention affects more than 99% of the world fleet and requires a Ballast Water Management Plan with a suitable staff training scheme.
