Description

When a lifting appliance fails, the consequences can be far-reaching. Serious injuries and deaths can occur. Legal claims can arise and legal costs can be significant. When equipment fails, the costs of disrupted operations can also be considerable. This course aims to improve the quality of the surveying and examination of lifting appliances to improve their operational safety. Lifting appliances should be thoroughly examined by a ‘competent person’ and this course will help candidates to become a competent person, by presenting some of the key underpinning knowledge, principles and safe practices.

The course covers the key elements of examining and certifying lifting appliances and also highlights the risks of lifting appliance operations and examinations. It focuses on the principles of examining ship-mounted lifting appliances and also applies those principles to offshore cranes and to two types of dockside cranes. The course does not cover linkspans or shiplift systems, heavy lift or other specialised applications, or Ro-Ro lifting equipment, or the multitude of land based crane types, although many of the same principles will apply.

On completion of this course you will receive a Certificate of Completion from Ocean Technologies Group, powered by Marlins, Seagull and Videotel.
